Application process

Just apply.

Selena Rohner, Head of HR at Erich Keller, supports applicants from the first contact to the employment contract. In this interview she explains why applying to us starts simply and why a trial day often tells us more than a perfect interview.

Selena, “just apply” – is it really that simple?

Yes. You apply online using a short form with only a few mandatory fields. What we need is your CV. A covering letter is welcome but not a must. We ask for further documents if needed.

And if the position has already been advertised for a few weeks?

As long as it is advertised, we are looking. If the role interests you, apply.

When do you get back to people?

Usually within a week. Since I work part-time, it can sometimes take a little longer.

What happens after the application?

If we think it could be a fit, we invite you to a first conversation in Sulgen. Depending on the role, we hold a short video call beforehand. The responsible manager is usually already present at the first in-person conversation. That way you get to know early on the person you would later be working with.

And if no invitation comes?

Then you receive a rejection. That is not a judgement of you as a person. It only means that for this position we are looking for someone with a different profile.

Do I have to prepare specially for the conversation?

You do not have to rehearse answers. Better to think about what you would like to know from us. After all, you should also find out whether Erich Keller suits you.

What happens after that?

If both sides feel it could be a fit, a taster day or trial period of work usually follows straight away. That gives you a real insight into everyday working life and we see how you approach tasks and work with the team. It matters to us that you fit into the team professionally and personally – and just as much that you feel comfortable with us.

Why is trial work so important to you?

Because we prefer to get to know people at work rather than only in an interview. We see how someone works, thinks and contributes to the team. And at the same time you experience how we work together. We prefer to recruit potential that we recognise at work rather than how well someone can sell themselves. Unless, of course, we happen to be looking for someone in sales.

And after the trial work?

Then we usually want to be able to decide. If the interest is mutual, we make you an offer covering the role, working hours, start date, salary and the most important terms of employment.

Can the salary still be negotiated afterwards?

We do not make a deliberately low offer with a negotiation round built in. We think beforehand about which salary fits the role, your experience and our internal salary structure. At the same time development should be possible – professionally, in terms of responsibility and also in terms of salary.

What do I do if a question comes up during the application process?

Just get in touch. You will find the contact details in the job advert.

And then?

Then, hopefully, the anticipation begins on both sides.

What do you say to someone who sees an interesting position but does not meet all the requirements?

Do not think about it for too long. If the role interests you and you believe you bring something that could fit us: just apply.
